Brake Caliper Stuck - Nothing Wrong With The Caliper Itself

I replaced the front passenger caliper as it was stuck and holding a clamp on the front tire.

After I replaced that one, I needed to replace the rear passenger for the same issue. That was about 2 months ago.

These were brand new units from Dodge, not aftermarket.

    Fast forward to last night.

Similar issue on the front passenger side.

I was able to get the caliper off.

I looked at the rotor and it looked all scored up.

I went and got a new rotor and pads.

I then grabbed my c-clamp and went to compress the caliper pistons.

    They would not budge.

They are brand new so no way they could be frozen.

I tightened down the clamp a little, then loosened the bleeder screws and the pistons went right back in no problem.

The truck is a 2011 with 115k miles.

I find it very odd that I could not push the pistons back in.

Also, it seems to me that both calipers on the same side exhibited the same issue.

Is it possible that something in the ABS module is preventing the calibers from releasing pressure when I do not have my foot on the brakes?

That's the only this between the calipers and the brake cylinder.

    Thoughts?

Tried again to compress the pistons.

    Not happening.

I then loosened the line at the abs modules and piston compressed just fine.

Just as a test I tried the same procedure on the driver side.

    No issues at all.

Pistons slides right back in a little.

Ordered a ABS module and will be swapping it out this weekend.

On either side of the pistons there are two Gide rails covered with black rubber unscrew them all the way and pull them out make sure they aren’t rusted or bent and grease them up and put them back in.

Also you should do a flush of the brake fluids you might have some dirty in the system floating around.

Make sure the system is properly bled. Usually when 1 caliper is done, the others aren't far behind especially with a Dodge.

I found the issue. Collapsed passenger rubber line. So basically there was nothing wrong with the original caliper. When I couldn’t compress in the pistons I assumed bad caliper.

However even after the new caliper I still had a similar issue of the brake locking.

The system would bleed no problem so the line never came to mind.

But I changed it yesterday and all is well

I always keep spares pins and boots on hand as they tend to have issues up here in the northeast with snow and salt.

I did flush the system and same issues.

Until as posted above the line was replaced.
