Do I Need To Monitor EGT's With RaceME Box Tunes?

I just installed it, and I'm running the box tune on my RaceME Ultra for now (+30hp, everything else stock).

In the future, I may buy a tune from DRD.

I don't have the monitor plugged in and prefer not to.

I am concerned about towing using the +30hp tune & EGT's.

I was thinking about installing a stand-alone egt gauge on the pillar to keep an eye on things (hopefully below the grab handle).

The EGT gauge should be smaller than the RaceMe monitor & provide the only info I am looking for.

I have no desire to switch tunes while driving, so if I wanted to change something, I would connect the RaceME monitor at that time.

I have no desire to add significant hp or possibly damage my trans either.

Should I not worry about it and drive/tow with it normally?

I regularly tow a 10k lb camper trailer and, on occasion, a 12k lb mini excavator.

    A pyrometer gauge wouldn't be a bad idea because 12k isn't a light load.

Shoot me a PM or email if you'd like to order one, and we'll get you fixed up; thanks.

    2x Joe’s comment.

It would not be a bad idea.

I agree with Joe as well, and he will take great care of you.

The SRT style pillar will keep your grab handle as you want.

Here’s a pic of the factory match AutoMeter pyrometer (right) I’ve got in my truck.

If you’ve got a stock manifold, I’d drill/tap the collection area for the probe.

    I would (and do).

We tow a 15k fifth wheel and run the RaceME Ultra box tunes on +30 hp.

You’d be surprised how quickly they can elevate under load.

My probe is mounted in the rear block-off plate, and towing in hills/mountains, I can easily hit 1300 (I try for under 1200 by downshifting).

It can also get pretty high when towing on a windy day.

I use the Ultra monitor, but a mechanical gauge would be beneficial.

I tow based on my EGT numbers.

Quick update: I purchased the Autometer EGT gauge & the pillar mount.

Very happy with this setup, as I am not a fan of having the monitor in the corner of the dash all the time.

The box tune in the RaceME Ultra is ok, but I feel the trans tune could be better.

While towing my 37ft camper trailer, I need to keep an eye on EGT's and downshift/let off as required.

I have found that keeping your speed up (60mph+) is beneficial to lower EGT's when climbing hills, but sometimes that is hard with semi-trucks & other traffic on the highway.

85mph in 5th works the best.

    Hey there.

I know this is an old thread, but you and I have the same setup.

Any chance you can send me the info on the probe you bought for the rear block off plate?

I already have a thread in it, so hopefully, it’s easy to hook up.

I tow a 21k 5th wheel and use only the stock setting for daily driving.

Do you use the Tow mode on the RaceME when towing?
