    Re: Ticking Sound Getting Worse

Remove the belt and start it up.

Do not run it to long (1-2mins you will not have water flowing) and see if the noise goes away.

Then check all the idler pulleys or just replace them.

The alternator can easily be spun by hand and any noise might be your problem.

Spray some chain Lube or WD to rule out one belt is re-attached.

Last easy check is water pump and fan.

They can be spun by hand.

If you feel any rough movement or noise might be a problem.

Main point is the process or elimination.

Start checking the easy stuff first then get to the harder things (PS pump).

It also might be the belt.

On another vehicle a belt would start making chirps and wines every 40k.

    Good luck.

If the sound goes away when the truck warms up it’s just valve clatter untill they heat up there is a gap of a few thousands of an inch and in the cold it’s exaggerated because it takes longer for the metal to expand to its proper size.

It will do it with truck at temperature.

Drove for 2 hours this afternoon.

Starts to do it now coasting up to a stop sign.

Will have to just start eliminating certain devices at this point.

Was just hoping someone had a similar issue/noise that could shed some light for a quicker diagnosis.

At 70k ish miles your due for a valve job set the intake at 10k and the exhaust at 20k I would do this then see if the sound goes away.

Also see if at idle you can turn your high idle on if it goes away at high idle it may be an injector.

Do a fuel filter change when you change it fill the filter with seafoam and run it hot for about 50 miles then shut the motor off do this with a low tank of fuel.

Try to clean out the injectors.

The video is hard to diagnose.

Was busy the last couple of days and didn't see the videos until now.

As far as the power steering sound.

You could lift the truck in the front and take all load off the front tires.

    Use wheel chalks.

Turn the wheel just the same amount you did in the video.

See if the sound made is less due to less strain.

BTW was the oil low in the power steering?

    How did it look, smell?

I know on my 2nd gen my weak small PS pump was noisy always.

I think I swapped to royal purple oil. this helped, especially in cold weather.

Later on down the r,oad I upgraded to a quick ratio Jorgenson pump.

Update: got a chance to take a look at the truck for a few today, used a stethoscope and just poked around.

The sound is 100% coming from the hydro booster on the cylinder specifically.

Going to flush the brake lines with new fluid, got this fancy brake bleeder system where it won’t lose prime.

    Will report back after.

    Hopefully fresh oil helps.

The sound almost sounds like airating.

    Great news!

Please post some photos and information on your new brake bleeding kit and let us know how it works.
