My City Diesel Actuator arrived yesterday and I installed today. Thanks Clayton @DDP for the excellent service. All went well no problems or difficulties. I will post some photos. I pulled the grill and drained the coolant (approximately 4.5 Gallons) at the radiator petcock using 1/2” ID hose and modified a 17mm socket to loosen the drain. Found my actuator was leaking at the gaskets and some coolant made it’s way to the actuator gear. The gear under the actuator was nice and free and could I move from stop to stop with one finger. Cleaned up the turbo mating surface and carefully installed the new actuator following the excellent instructions provided. Filled the system using the vacuum method to put back what I took out. Took it out for a test drive no problems, no leaks or codes.

Awesome writeup! Thank you for sharing the pics. That actuator looked like it seen better days. I like that idea of the 17mm.

There are some less expensive kits, but the quality is good and it will allow you to vacuum fill and pressure test the coolant system.

I couldn’t get any of the adapters to completely seal my coolant tank at first but was able to take the one that fit the best and move an O ring and rubber flat washer from other adapters in the kit to make it work.

If anyone else runs into this issue please let me know and I will explain in more detail with photos.

I use that vacuum-filling system at work called an airlift.

It's nice to see if you have a leak before you add coolant, and of course, it fills the system quite well, not leaving hardly any air behind.

If you still have the EGR cooler in place, there is a high point; make sure you get the air out of there.

My truck is a 2010 and has 55K on it now.

But I have AlfaOBD and can run my sweep when it comes time to replace that actuator.
