    Charging Batteries

It seems to me that when I charge my batteries, if I hook up to the Driver side battery, it charges faster than if I hook up to the Passenger side. Or am I imagining things? (possible)

Is there a preferred side? I do it because my truck sits a lot these day. And because I'm AR

Also, another dumb question...... If I go to change out my batteries, do I need to take any precautions because it's tuned? IOW, is there any danger of losing or changing the tune when the batteries are discannected?

I have quick disconnects on both of my batteries as I never liked charging just one. If I had to charge just one it'd be the drivers side. No precautions necessary other than resetting your clock LOL

Thanks. But why don't you like charging just one?

And I'm not talking about batteries that are completely run down. I'm talking maintenance charging. Totally discharged is, IMO, another topic.

    Re: Charging Batteries

I do both just as a personal preference. If the truck sits more than a few days, then they're on the trickle chargers. Even for our car, tractor and mower. My mower is a diesel and on the original battery of 15 years old.

Just personal preference more than anything.

I trickle them individually at the same time while plugged into a high joule rated surge protector.

And then there’s me who just charged my battery with a non agm compatible charger from the 80s that I know damn well puts out over 13 volts plugged into a 50ft extension cord. All the while reading the warning label about not applying more than nominal 12 volts and thinking I do what I want LOL.

Interesting question, I only trickle charge (maintain) the driver side battery, but in my mind since both batteries are hardwired in parallel it shouldn’t make any difference which one the charger is attached to assuming all connections are good clean and tight. Disconnecting the batteries will not cause you to loose or change your tune.

    Re: Charging Batteries

I do the same as Bob - I have Noco Quick connects on both batteries - but normally only connect to drivers side - after about 6 hours - My Noco G750 shows both batteries are fully charged.

I do this at least 3 times a month - (Winter)
Summer = Once a Month (Normally during long change) days off - when she sits in the garage for 5-6 days straight) - Ideal Time.

Takes about 2 min to connect and disconnect - so it's by no means a PITA!
Popping the hood the most strenuous part of the procedure.

I charge from the driver's side with a battery tender junior.

When it’s charging both batteries will read 13.2 or whatever it’s charging at they are in parallel.

Just a note battery tender says to put negative wire from tender on the other battery when the charger is putting out more then 1 amp while charging.
