    Adding a Trutrac and 410 Gears - 2016 RAM 2500

Truck is currently open differential and I hate it.

Especially since the added power of The DRD tunes.

I want to add an Eaton trutrac and gear down from the current 342 to a 410.

I tow and live high up on a twisted mountain road.

I'm a little lost picking the correct part number for the trutrac.

    Can someone help me out?

I have a local at home mechanic going to do the work for me, but I need to order the parts.

    And, nitro or Yukon gears?

This is a 4wd so I’ll be buying the trutrac, 2 gear sets, and the install kits of there is a vendor willing to make a deal.

    No problem friend.

Re-Gear is in my future as well.

Please let us know how it goes.

@317millhand - Keep us up to date on your future modification - reason being many of us have this type of mod added to our bucket list as well.

I myself at this time - just don't have $3K-$5K laying around extra to spend on this modification.

I still need to contact AAM for their suggestion as for their Locker preference for their Differential and gears.

Fwiw: trutrac is no better/different than a factory helical lsd.

If you have the factory unit, dump the synthetic fluid change to a conventional fluid WITH OUT friction modifyers in it, this will help the helical / torsen diff bias the torque better.

I'm curious - On this Conventional over Synthetic for better basic operation of the TracRite GT - Which is supposed to be installed in my 2017 AAM 11.5" Rearend.

Did you get this Actual (Truthful) information directly from AAM?

I'm only curious - due to I have 5 pages printed off in front of me - that I gathered a few years back from the AAM (Technical/Support) - stating nothing of this.

These are the Main pages - that gives a small bit about the Type & Operation but nothing about (What type of Gear Oil) is preferred to be used in the GT.

Chrysler specifies using the synthetic fluid purely from a maintenance and warranty standpoint does absolutely nothing for the performance of the differential.
Not a single manufacturer of a torsion style differential advocates using a synthetic fluid and or any form of limited slip additive. In addition fluids that have low friction modifiers IE fuel economy improvers blah blah blah also reduce the functionality of a torsion style differential.
And yes, I happen to have quite a bit of " insider knowlage"
As the director of technical support for one of the industries leading drivetrain parts manufacturing companies one of the analogies that I like to use for explaining the operation of a torsion differential is a drill bit. Torsion style differentials require preloading and torque input to work properly and Tobias the torque from one side to another this is why when on ice and snow conditions you often need to apply the parking brake slightly to get a torsion differential to work. As far as my drill bit analogy that primarily works as far as using a super slick fluid for a cutting oil versus an actual cutting oil the way it torsion works is you have worm gears that attempt to dig into each other just like a drill bit biting into a piece of wood or metal if you provide two slick of a surface then it can't bite in and buy us the torque friction modifiers that are used in a clutch style application are designed to help promote smooth release of the friction surfaces this is counterproductive in a torsion style differential. Synthetic fluids can also be too slick for proper torque biasing in a torsen style differential and you see a better torque biasing and better traction by running nonsynthetic , and or non " energy concerving" fluids.

    Re: Adding a Trutrac and 410 Gears - 2016 RAM 2500

    Great & Interesting Info -->
I have not really had to be to concerned with my 11.5" AAM w/Anti-Spins performance until the last few days.
10*F & roads are solid Ice - now beginning to snow on top of it.

Just had to drive 41 miles on top of this #$%^ - With the Traction Control (In the partial Off Position)- (Button only pushed once) - decided to be stupid and try it without the aid of 4WD & I am honestly thrilled.
The 11.5" w/Anti-Spin performed flawlessly Even on these Horrid Firestones.

I stayed straight and only had a couple instances that I noticed I lost a bit of traction - granted I stayed within the 45 mph range and stayed in my lane the whole drive.
The Anti-Spin performed - Filled with TRIAX Synergy PAO 75W-90/140 - extremely well!

T1H5TA3 - Thanks again for sharing that info.
I will email AAM tomorrow just to see if they pull a Democratic Moment & try to BS me.

Note: Now I am REALLY curious - What Conventional Gear Oil would your recommend?
    Now I'm on a mission - I went ahead and e-mailed Patrick @ AAM.

A fella really has to look a bit to even find Conventional Gear Oil these days.

Edit: A bit dated but found this - ya my head hurts now! - No mention of requiring Conventional Gear Oil to achieve proper operation of the unit.

Also stumbled upon some info - stating Eaton designed and produces the TracRite GT & AAM just installs them in their axles.
Also info stating I could run a Synthetic GL-5 gear oil as long as it does not contain the LSD Additive for the Clutch Style (Limited Slip)
