    Unplugging Grid Heater

Has anyone unplugged their grid heater with the DRD tune?

I read about the issues with it, and mine has relatively low miles on it, and wondered if I could unplug it without getting a dummy light?

I have not installed the tune yet, but does the tune have to be updated if I were to do this ahead of time?

Or do I not worry about it and check the connections periodically?

You would get a check engine light if that weren't turned off in your tuning.

    Yes you can!

I’ve done it on my 2013.

Disconnected all the power wires from the battery to solenoid on passenger battery tray, then the power cable from there all the way over to the grid itself.

Just jump in and fire it up.

    No wait to start needed.

This is a copy of Ray’s answer to your question.

Re: Question: Grid Heater Removal and Potential Code Avoidance
If a customer wants to run a grid heater delete without a check engine light, they must request that when buying a tune from us because it's not standard with our tuning.

We feel it's not best to disable this function as a standard feature because most folks will want the grid heater to function as well as knowing that it's not working by way of getting DTC when its not.

You will only get a CEL if you "wait to start" with it disconnected.

All you need to do is start it by turning the key over like normal for no CEL.

True, but most folks use their remote to start and it will wait for preheat and give you a trouble code and engine check light.

You may want to read the OP again.

He actually asked if he would get a check engine light if he removed the grid heater with a DRD tune.

I guess we are confusing each other?

OP - “Can I remove grid heater with DRD tune and not get a CEL?”

My real life first hand experience with DRD tuning is YES.

    Sorry for the confusion.
