The po254 is going to be wiring issues or pcm.

Check for resistance shorts to other circuits and load test wires.

Circuit high or low codes will always be electrical or module problems.

Don’t start ordering injectors or tubes it’s not gonna fix your problem.

I’ve seen stretched wires broken down to one strand pass resistance but not able to carry a load and the wire look perfectly fine from the outside.

Also since your always commanded the same pressure tells me it’s not the FCA.

The FCA doesn’t think for itself it does what it’s told to do by the pcm.

    Re: Fuel Delivery Issue

So, last night, during a relatively cold start (40 degrees or so) with the hood up I noticed a hard power draw cycling (grid heater I’m sure) but also an audible/physical click which seemed to be around the air box area.

    Is this normal?

Is there a relay or something in that area?

I could feel this tick with my hand on the passenger fender... never noticed it before.

I also physically checked every fuse this morning again nothing.

As far as testing resistance and knowing what goes where, boy, I might be in over my head there.

I’m under the impression that’s what they were doing for a week at the last shop it was in.

They told me the pcm tested good.

Yeah that’s normal the solenoid/relay is bolted to the battery.

Well if the pcm is sending out the right pulse width to the FCA circuit it’s gonna be a wiring issue.

Hard to tell what the shop did LOL for all you know your truck sat in the lot for a week while they loaded up the parts cannon.

    Fuel Delivery Issue

Try disconnecting then reconnecting the front most pcm connecter the circuit that relates to p0254 is a 2 wire circuit that runs straight from the pcm to the FCA with no inline connectors.

    Ok, I’ll do that!

Thank you for the info and feedback everyone, I appreciate it!

Feel like I’m chasing a ghost on this one.

However I’ve learned a ton about this system over the last month, so I’m grateful for that.

Considering just ordering a new PCM.

Any recommendations? (the truck is deleted so it will have to be pre-programmed) and is it crazy to investigate getting a replacement wiring harness?

Maybe one without all the extra BS that was once the EGR and crap?

Not sure if there’s anything like that out there.

This attachment should help you identify and troubleshoot the circuit.

    It’s a deleted, MM3 tuned 2014 2500.

The shop changed out the fuel control solenoid and fuel pressure sensor.

This improved the idle slightly but would not build over 13,100 psi rail pressure.

Plenty of boost pressure, no smoke. (Fuel filters both have less than 1k miles btw).

Today, I put a race plug in the fuel rail to eliminate the possibility of a weak blow off.

Well, now the truck reads 29, xxx psi rail pressure all the time, and runs like a dog.

Sounds like a tired 12 valve.

I did my best to inspect all plugs and wiring, and now I’m shooting in the dark.

Could my return line be obstructed?

Why else would I be building 29k at idle?

    Any ideas will help, thanks!
My FCA on the CP3 went bad a couple years ago and I didn't know and chased the issue for months until I bought a new CP3.

It idles fine after that, but I do know it sounded like a similar circumstance and if I unplugged the FCA it would go to 29xxx, but with it plugged in it was all over the place and wouldn't idle.

I had bought a new one to put in, a Borg Warner replacement even.

Thought I had ruled it out but the brand new one ended up being bad.

I bought injectors, a FASS, one mechanic said fan clutch and if i'm not mistaken the code it was throwing was P0254 as well.

    Hope this helps.

    Well, I’ve replaced the PCM.

It is supposed to be “plug and play” matched to the VIN.

Now I’m trying to contact the company that originally sold me the MM3 for a new tune for this PCM (dieselracekits.com) and haven’t heard from them.

How can I get this delete tune elsewhere?
