    Drop In Air Filter

I have been searching through threads looking for info on what’s the best drop in filter until I just give up.

I actually thought I was searching wrong because there isn’t much I could find on it.

I am not interested in a CAI and read plenty about that subject.

My truck is stock now but maybe not much longer!

    So what is recommended.

Factory or something like AFI dry filter and which brand is favored?

At one point I was set on a CAI but had a lot of knowledgeable guys on here change my mind and it would be a waste of money.

There’s pro and cons of dry and oiled but I run the K&N.

There may be better but it is definitely better than the stock filter I replaced it with.

I've only used the stock drop in, but I'm going to follow and see what others come up with.

I had the AFE drop in and really liked it.

My filter gets dirty fast so it made sense for me to get a reusable filter.

Oiled filters can cause intake sensor issues if over-oiled so I avoided this issue by going dry.

I did end up installing an AFE CAI as the filter is larger and doesn't need to be cleaned as often.

I got the one that drops in the factory air box for simplicity of install.

The engine brake is much louder and during warm up when it idles up to 1000 rpm with the engine brake on it sounds like a growling beast when you are walking up to it.

If you want quiet leave the factory setup in place.

From what I understand it will handle upwards of 600 hp.

RAM did put a very good intake on these engines stock.

Reusable filters are an option as in my case it fit the bill.

If it's in the budget and you don't mind the extra sound a CAI is not a bad option.

I also use the stock filter and change it out at 10,000 miles or one year whichever comes first.

My Go to --> Wix 46930 or Fleetguard AF27684 - Change out every 20K miles - Since she always stays on the tarmac.
At the 10K mile mark - I will remove and clean out the air box (Spotless) and blow the air filter out with the air compressor then reinstall.

I ran a AEM Dry Flow with my 14 5.7L -- They don't make a drop in for the 6.7L.

Note: I installed a very fine mesh bug screen over the front cold air intake opening (Had to remove the Grill) and also the fender opening - to keep the larger debris totally out of the Air Box.

I swear by AFE dry filters and have them in everything I own.

I normally drive cross country to see the grandkids and have had very dirty filters on the drive.

When at the hotel, I pull, wash clean, let dry overnight and go.

Haven't had to buy another filter since.

You should look at the maintenance of them, very simple and last for years.

I will get one of these AFE reusable. I keep seeing a lot of guys/gals using these with a lot of good response to them. Out with the k&n

    Re: Drop In Air Filter

    AFE, or Airaid dry filters.

    Running a Banks CAI.

If I were to do it again I would probably get the Airaid or K&N elbow , with the AFE filter.

You keep the stock box you just get a better flowing elbow to the turbo.

My personal go to was always the AFE Pro dry s because the Airaid and K&N oil free filters didn't exist back then.

I remember back in the day Amsoil had a EaA air filter wonder if those are still around.

Have seen a couple people run this weird looking one off Amazon from DPS filters, if anything looks cool.
