    Possible Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly Issue

    2006 RAM 2500 5.9L

The other day after picking up a trailer full of hay, I started hearing a screeching metal on metal type of noise from one of the front wheel areas.

My assumption is that the little bit of added weight played a part.

It was fairly loud, especially when turning. It only made the noise for a little while.

I'm no mechanic and I'm not even that inclined when it comes to doing that type of work.

Having said that, does this sound like a wheel bearing issue?

If so, can someone confirm it's just a sealed unit and simple to change?

If it needs changed, I found this one for half the price of all the others.

    Thoughts?

Have you checked your front breaks pads and rotors to see if the wear bar indicators are making contact?

    I have not.

It didn't really sound like that but I'll check when I can.

    Thanks!

Also check the backing plate tin shield.

    They are thin.

If you live in a rust belt they can rust away and start to come apart rubbing on the wheel.

I had this happen when doing brakes on my 2003 at 100K.

The tins had as many deteriorated spots as solid metal.
