    Re: New Tires

I did some measuring a little while ago and most everywhere I measured was 9 or 10/32s and they are 18 new.

I did remember my front end was out of alignment for the first 5 or 6000 miles I had them and the steer tires started to chop.

I drive all roads gravel, back country, city, and highway. If I can get 40k out of them I'll be happy.

I had them on my other truck previously and they wore good on it but it does weigh about 1500 lbs less but I was hauling heavy trailers more frequently with my other truck, it's a 1997 chevy 2500 4x4 with a 350 gas engine.

    I was thinking I might go with 285 70 17.

Depends on what height and width you like.
    285/70R17 = 32.7”x11.2”
That tire will definitely need spacers on the rear.
I used the tire size charts on tire size.com to see actual height/width sizes for tires when I was doing my research. If you click on that size in the chart, you can see what brands make that size and see specs etc.

    Happy shopping.

I was going to throw on some hub centric 2" steel spacers anyway but my concern was fitting the tire on the 6" wheel.

The tires will balloon some with that skinny rim.

Do you haul heavy often? Because if not often you could drop the pressure to keep them riding the whole tread width vs just the center.

If you haul heavy often you will need the pressure higher and the tires will ride on just the center of the tread causing them to wear out faster.

You may need to look at ether a narrower tire or aftermarket rim.

This is just my opinion, good luck.

I tow a good bit and aftermarket wheels are out of the question.

The wife is already fussing about new tires.

If you look at 255/80-17 they are slightly taller than 285/70 but an inch narrower.

I have read people dont have to run a spacer.

I'll look into those for sure.

Even though I've already bought 2" spacers.
