Just curious, did you start out with just the P226C or did you have this code in conjunction with others?

    Re: P226C Questions

    I had lots of issues.

The u010 and p003 codes were the start.

They were partly tied to a bad nox sensor.

I also found the factory tune was stuck in a rich mode.

Out came a lot when i hit the pothole, but i started having issues with your code.

The truck would go a few days before it would pop up again.

The code was always preceded by the engine surging at idle when stopped as the actuator tried to keep up.

You can confirm the issue by graphing the commanded and actual positions for the VGT.

You will find the actuator is hanging at a point and the graphs diverge from each other.

They catch back up but the actuator not moving enough is the issue.

The factory units are known to have weak motors and to develop leaks, which burn out the electronics.

The vanes themselves also develop slop to them.

They ride through an alignment ring that needs to rotate in the exhaust housing.

My belief is the groove for the ring gets filled with carbon and it stops the vanes from moving freely, burns up the motor.

You can clean it up dropping the down pipe and cleaning out the housing using some brake clean and intake valve cleaner.

Update: the truck now has 165k on it now and has been running Hotshot secret in every tank full since 2020, when this code started.

The code has never come back.

    Snake oil, you decide?

I use it in my ‘22 now from day 1 of ownership.

Currently, 28k miles have zero codes so far.

2016 still runs like a top with DRD tuning.

JMHO - Hot Shot's Secret (diesel fuel additives) is legit! - The JUDGE has had these additives used with every fill-up since I brought her home from the dealership.

I've kind of changed it up a bit - this winter.

Chose to run HSS - Winter Defense (year-round) 4-8oz @ every fill up - depending on how many gallons it takes to fill the tank.

Diesel Extreme - 16oz added every 6 months with a full tank. (Before Winter & Spring)
Alliant Power - (UltraGuard) is my carrier additive.

Mix in a 32oz bottle - 24oz (UltraGuard) & 8oz (Winter Defense) - Then distribute into 8oz bottles & add before each fill up.

I would not flinch to run - Opti-Lube XPD or Archoil AR6500!

I don't smoke or do drugs or dip - so if you can imagine, I have a A$$ Load of extra $$$$$ to spend on Diesel Fuel Additives!

Most would/have said - Diesel Fuel additives are Not Necessary - Well, neither is the 3 - (Horrid Habits) I listed above but millions of fine folks abuse them every second of every day - so that argument in My Garage is totally ignorant!

"If I was one of those unfortunate ones who was gifted that problematic CP4 - I would practically double dose every fill up."
    with a Non-alcohol / Demulsifier fuel additive.
Avoid the Emulsifier additives! ---> JMO!

I’ve fixed a few trucks with sticking injectors with HSS extreme additive.

I know it Pisses Alot of Diesel Additive Snobs off - But the Product actually does what it's advertised to do - If You as a owner takes the time to perform all your preventive maintenance ahead of time.

"Sometimes double dosing and triple dosing" never hurts! (Once or Twice a year)
Most never pay any attention to actual white paper data/reports - but this Country's Diesel Fuel Quality is Horrific!
JMHO ----> Fuel Additives and Fuel Filtering (in todays world) are more vital the then Brand & Viscosity of oil run & choice of Oil Fitration!

EDIT: Read a few reports of owners - pouring in a couple cans of Seafoam before a fill up & long road trip & showing a improvement in distance between Regeneration.

I deeply apologize for the high jacking of this thread - I will bow out at this point!

I've been running Hot Shots EDT + LX4 lubricity (2 oz of each) every tank and then 8-16 oz (I forget the dose) twice a year of Diesel Extreme; been running it in my wife's 2013 X5 Diesel since before I had my truck and her Jetta Sportwagen TDI before that.

    No complaints with HSS.
