    G56 Girdle

My truck is going in for a new clutch in a week: South Bend twin disc full-organic.

(No, I am not an organic-only hippie, but I do admittedly enjoy the occasional bowl of granola).

While it's apart I am asking the shop to install a Tork-Shield girdle from LazarSmith.

Anyone have any experience with them?

I hope I'm doing my truck a favor for long-term reliability.

It's bone-stock (for now) but we tow heavy (15k+) nearly 100% of the time.

The shop also suggested they drain out the ATF and over-fill with Mobil Delvac at the same time.

I gave them the go-ahead for that as well.

    Awesome!

Is there a reason for going organic over the ceramic?

Reason I’m asking is my clutch is starting to slip a little and it’s still OEM with 76k on it.

    I’ve never heard of a toro-shield girdle.

Yes, the reason for full-organic is streetability.

I've had aftermarket clutches in other vehicles and will shy away from ceramic and even kevlar from now on.

I want a progressive, smooth engagement.

    Thanks a lot.

I’ll look into that when the time comes to replace my clutch.

Wow lazarsmith is a name I've not heard in years, good to hear they're still in business.

If it were me I'd pass on the torkshield and save the money for head studs or fuel system.

I've always dumped the ATF in my G56 trucks and went with an oil and overfilled it by 1 quart.

If you've never experienced this you'll notice that it will have notchy shifting until it gets warm as this is perfectly normal.

Organic holds less HP but doesn't have as firm of an engagement as ceramic.

If you pull trailers and/or aren't concerned about holding 650hp+ then I think you'll really like an organic setup.

Let me know when you're ready to get one and I'll get you fixed up.

My favorite street clutch was a 3600 12 cb spring hub with the diaphragm pressure plate.

A 3850 solid hub will hold a lot more but they don’t last on the street good unless they changed the levers since I had mine.

I got 27k miles and one lever broke.

Well, my shop cannot get ahold of Lazarsmith to purchase a girdle and recent Google reviews on him are less than flattering.

Looks like it will just be a new South Bend clutch and an oil swap for me this time.
