    G56 Fluid Level?

    I've got a 2015 RAM 2500 with 45k on it.

    The truck is all stock.

I’ve been doing some research and I’m getting a lot of different info on how much you’re actually supposed to put in it.

I think the manual calls for 5 quarts.

I’ve read that some people will fill it until it comes out of the fill hole, just like you normally would.

Then I’ve read a lot of people will add in an extra after putting the fill hole plugin.

    What’s right?

What’s the advantage of the extra quart?

Shouldn’t the manufacturers know where they want the fluid level to be?

Yes the manual calls for 5 Qts, however due to the fill hole location when the truck is level with the fill plug removed it apparently will only hold about 4 Qts.

Hopefully others who have this transmission will chime in on the pros and cons of adding the missing quart.

I bought a side adapter that added an extra quart to mine.

When adding extra you want to be using gear oil and not the atf stuff.

I took the shifter out and poured through the top.

Do 7 quarts as it helps make sure 5th gear doesn't starve of fluid.

You don't have to go to the trouble of going through the shift tower like most people do it.

Drain and fill 5 or 6 quarts on level ground then pull the passenger side up on a Rhino Ramp or some 2x4's(you get the point) and add the 7th quart.

It's very easy and not as aggravating as some make it out to me.

    I fill mine with 7qts.

I pour all mine in from the shifter plate (need to remove the plate) since the last two need to go in up there anyway.

I filled mine with 7qts of Amsoil ATF which seems to shift ok, but man does it stink in the truck.

Thinking of changing to get away from the smell.

It was added from the top into the shift plate while the trans was out of the truck so none was spilled in the truck.

I like the idea what @cumminsdieselfreak said by putting the right side up on ramps.

I think I’ll try that when I do mine.
