Did you do the repair kit or did you replace the whole shaft.

I was looking at the bearing repair kit but if the shaft that goes into the bearing is shot then that kit is no good for anything.

I was leaning more toward just replacing the whole shaft to ctrl+alt+del that component and start with the proper lubrication schedule.

For what it's worth, I rebuilt mine at ~165k.

I have had the truck since 42k and hadn't touched the grease fitting once.

When I pulled it apart, there was still grease in there.

None of the needle bearings were broken/vaporized and mating surfaces were still in good shape.

I had about $150 into the rebuild with u-joints and the rebuild ball kit plus a few hours of my time.

Compare that to $700+ for a completely new shaft.

The kit is way cheaper. Maybe I'll just try rebuilding it. I dont really have any major vibration issues so it is more than likely just fine. Did you get the kit that had the bearing cup and all that installed already?

Just installed, took maybe 2 min.

Bushing have a smooth side and a flat side.

I don't plan on seeing much of an improvement as my truck only has 10k miles.

More or less looking to see if it will prolong the steering.

    Smooth left flat right.

So here is the newest development in the steering wander saga... 20201026_152207.jpg
    This is the centered measurement.

    20201026_152218.jpg
This is the wheel play to the left.

    20201026_152226.jpg
    Wheel play to the right.

So I went in and attempted to do the steering box adjustment.

Saw a few videos online on how to do it and it looked super easy.

Mine however, I think may have been adjusted in all the way because while all the videos showed them easily turning that shaft in with a screw driver, mean while I broke one off because mine is so stiff.

I tried with the weight on wheels and weight off wheels with no difference.

I got maybe an eighth of a turn on mine and here are the results.

    20201026_162645.jpg
    Middle measurement.

    20201026_162658.jpg
    Left wheel play.

    20201026_162710.jpg
    Right wheel play.

The tiny amount I got it to move, it cleaned it up a half inch on both ways.

The factory spec is two total inches of play.

I want from 4inches down to 3 inches.

I'm just at a loss of why that pin is so stiff.

Resurrecting an old post but finally did some more suspension work.

I got the Carlie front springs, sway bar, and shocks finally installed.

Also replaced the junk Moog tie rod with a new synergy one.

Found that the driver-side steering knuckle taper was worked out.

Apparently, Mopar quit making them this year so buying a new one was not an option.

I had to have a local machine shop make a new taper sleeve to fix it.

I installed the Carlie add a pack of springs and shocks in the rear than to manage better heavier loads added their long travel airbags.

    All went in fairly easily.

I need to weld the lower airbag brackets so they don't spin on me when I load it down.

I got it pretty leveled out.

I'm still waiting for my wheels to come in.

I have some 35x12.50s sitting in the garage waiting to be mounted.
