    Release the pressure?
DAP and Thoroughbred diesel can both get you a VP for under $1000.

I highly recommend an aftermarket lift pump rated at at least 100gph. Also good to make sure the support bracket for the VP44 is in place. Trucks will eat VPs if that bracket is missing.

    Replace your lift pump too.

If he's talking about the injector lines, you just remove them, no need to release pressire

iv taken apart 3 of the first gen motors, never once released pressure from the pump. just loosen off all your lines and have a pail underneath the main fuel line into the pump for excess fuel.
