Using Marine Grade Grease On The Cardan Joint?

I accidentally bought a tube of "Boat Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease" which is made for high salt (ocean water) for backing the trailer in to launch a boat.

Would this stuff be OK to use on the Cardan joint?

(I didn't have my glasses on when purchasing and could only read the "Wheel Bearing" letter type on the tube).

Should I take it back - or use it?

I say grease is grease. Is it lithium at least?

Personally I would stay with the recommended Lithium Based grease.

I was not even thinking when I bought a 3 pack of the Amsoil (synthetic) multi-purpose (Red Grease) at a garage sale - years ago.
Pumped in 3 squirts till red grease come out the back side. (She was bone dry from the factory)

Drive shaft is still intact - no unusual sounds or vibrations so far! (Only use 4WD during the winter months) last winter was very mild.
In my situation - some grease was better then NO grease.

Correct answer? -----> Lithium is recommended (according to the Manual) it does not say required - Is it totally necessary? No Idea!
