    Dealer Issue

I went to the dealer this past weekend to get a quick oil change (tools are in storage due to buying/selling houses).

I asked for a quote to change my fuel filter while I was there.

Dealer told me I had two fuel filters and it would be $170 to change both.

Having a 2012 I was under the impression I only had one fuel filter in the engine bay.

I declined the service and will be doing it myself this weekend.

    So which is it?

I don't want to be going to the store and buying one, when I need two, and don't want to be buying two when I only need one LOL.

2012 trucks have only the engine mounted filter.

You only need a phillips head screwdriver a 28mm socket and something to catch the fuel from when you bleed the pressure canister.

I have some filters posted in the For Sale section if you decide to do this yourself.

I just changed mine yesterday, but I've never had a need for a Phillips screedriver, what's that for?

I used it to open the bleeder valve on the canister. Not necessary, I just found it easier than reaching down and turning by hand.

Gotcha Greg, I just reach in there and twist.
I did have to replace my drain hose this last change.

Went to drain and the old one was nowhere to be found.

I also have a billet cap, no worries of stripping that but I do use a 28mm socket.

UG! - I hate hearing stories of Dealerships that have no clue with the information they are sending out!

Marion can possibly help - his is a 2014 but I think they are very similar.

Now he mentioned putting lube on the o-ring.

    What lube do you use?

Or do you just soak it in diesel fuel?

I used a tiny bit of motor oil but some fuel would work too. Just something to make the o-ring slick so it doesn't bind or get torn when you tighten the cap.

I have used motor oil in the past - just like stated above.

I purchased one of those aluminum caps many months ago.
I will just use engine oil - I will stay with the plastic cap until it begins to have issues - Then swap to this aluminum cap (Stinking thing best not leak)!
Still don't understand why these OEM caps are so expensive - It's just plastic!

The Reviews on this lid where all basically good - but yes I know ya can't trust these reviews for nothing.

There are a few nicks on the inside of the cap - the threads are deep and sharp as razors.

With the right size socket the OEM plastic cap - might last many years.
Note: I will wait till the motor & Plastic has cooled off overnight (at least 12-18 hrs) before attempting to unscrew the plastic lid.
