    Engine Cuts Out At WOT

    Truck is a 2008 Dodge 2500, auto.

Fully deleted and tuned by DRD (awesome job!).

I normally drive around on the 120HP tune but ever since I first put the tunes on I can make the truck cut out at full throttle and it gives me a dead pedal for a few seconds.

It doesn't do it on the stock or 60HP tune and gets worse on the 200HP tune which I've only tried a couple times. (stock tranny).

I do have the trans tune, not sure exactly what all that does, automatics are all voodoo and black magic to me. (always been a manual guy).

Seems to be getting worse and not so much full throttle anymore, even just stepping on it when pulling out into traffic you have to be careful and the dead pedal lasts a little longer.

I talked with Ray at the beginning and did some data logging.

He couldn't find anything wrong and said everything was working as it should. We thought maybe the factory lift pump was the culprit since there is now a greater demand for fuel.

Just installed my Air Dog II 165 yesterday but the problem is still there.

Everything else is still stock on the truck.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks! - Jake

Have you checked actual rail pressure versus desired rail pressure?

Finally got around to check this.

I always monitor actual rail pressure, and it would max out at 27,000.

I watched actual and desired and with normal driving they’re pretty much the same.

    Within a few hundred.

I have no idea if that’s normal or not.

On a couple WOT stomps the actual seemed to be about 20-22,000 but the desired was 26,000.

It all happens so fast and it’s hard to really watch it.

    What would cause this?

My brother has an 08 not tuned by Ray that does the same thing.

At wot the engine will sometimes lose all power as if shutting down.

I wonder if the oem rail pressure relief valve is the culprit being 2 stage.

    You answered your own question.

A bad pressure relief valve can cause this.

I finally got around to changing the fuel rail pressure relief valve and the truck still acts the same.

Could the rail pressure sensor be causing this? I’m running out of ideas.

At the risk of my sounding dumb are you confident that the pedal potentiometer has no dead spots?

Ie even voltage swing through the curve.

That doesn’t sound dumb at all.

This electronic stuff is foreign to me.

I have no clue how to even check that. It never did this before the tuning.

There’s never been any weird pedal spots.

It’s like someone just shuts the fuel off and you have to back out of it, wait 5 seconds and then get back on a little easier again.

I would think that using your MM3 to view the percentage would be sufficient.

Here’s a video of what happens.

Excuse the poor quality, kind of hard to record it while driving.

This time I heard some gnarly turbo bark.

    I don’t usually hear that.

Is it possible it’s not getting enough air through the factory filter box?

It’s an upgraded filter, and I added more holes to the box.
