    Need Help - Cummins Doctors

    I have 2003 Gen 3.

While pulling 6000 lb trailer to my hunting area temperatures ran 212 to 223 in stock.

Exhaust manifold 1250f and no power, but fuel dumps at that temperature.

I had to go at 30 mph up hills.

    I have an Edge tuner.

I’m thinking I need a complete engine flush and new thermostat.

    Never been done.

    No smoke.

    Any other ideas?

I had a problem like this also.

Mine was a 01 2nd gen. Found out my edge tuner was bad.

They do go bad and oftentimes when going bad they over fuel engine which makes it run hotter. Lots of things to cause overheating.

You are correct about engine radiator flush.

Check sides of radiator because they are plastic and have tendency to crack hard to find.

I had to put in a new one also.

    Good luck.

Edge tuner will make things hot- they pretty much just add fuel to make your power.

I would drive it unhooked from your trailer and see what you get.

If your in the south ambient temps are still pretty high so that is something to consider.

Edge products are notorious for making a truck run hot.

What exactly do you mean when you say that the fuel dumps at that temperature?

    1. I'd start with putting the power level back to stock if you've not already then see if the problems persist.

    2. Check radiator for any debris that could cause it to run hot.

    3. Check coolant level.

    4. Thermostat could be hanging up.

    5. Water pump acting up.

    6. Fan could be on it's way out. Does the truck overheat sitting in traffic as well?
