    Camper Shell

Ok guys I’m wondering if anyone knows if a camper shell that was on a 2011 Crew Cab 2500 8’ bed will fit my 2017 Crew Cab 8’ Dually bed?

I was thinking the dimensions that matter ( mounting surface ) are the same.

    Thanks

You'll need more info that this. Cab coefiguraton, bed length and such. Go to a website like https://www.leer.com/ and put in the info needed for each truck and see if the same shells will come up for each truck.

The crew cab and quad cab actually have a slightly different profile.

It sounds like what you are looking at will work though.

I just put a used cap from a quad cab on my crew. It's not perfect but close enough.

However, the crew cab cap may not fit a quad. Here's a picture of my setup.

You can see the slight difference in the cab angle vs the cap.

    Thanks for that.

I do see the slight difference.

Well that camper shell isn’t going to work.

It has a lip on the outside that will rub my “wide hips”.

Heck of a deal at $300 too.

    Really?

The lip hangs down far enough to interfere with the fenders?

The rear fenders really flare out that close to the top of the bed?

My cap is an ARE Z series.

It definitely covers the top plastic rail cap on the bed.

I could take some close ups of how much it overhangs the top of the bed if it might help you.

I was thinking maybe you could use a shim around the perimeter to raise it up just a little?

Maybe some strips of vinyl laminate flooring or something just thin enough to buy you some clearance but still waterproof?

Closeups would be great! I’m just going by pics and the measurements the seller is giving me. Yes I did think of shim. Here is a pic of mine.

I think for $300 I'd take the gamble. The cap covers barely any more than the black plastic on the top of the bed. I think these pics will help you.
