    CCV Delete/Options?

    Hey everyone, so I really wanted to hear thoughts and input about what I should do, pertaining to the CCV.

    I run a RaceME Ultra and it allows for the EGR to stay in place.

    Well I'm "cleaning the egr" this weekend and don't know what I should do about the CCV.

    Gut the filter and run a breather?

    Gut the filter and run a catch can?

    Gut the filter and run a drain tube to the frame, or just leave dumping into the intake.

    I really wanna hear Ray comment on this.

    I have read his opinion before, and it seemed he would rather to leave it in place as is.

    Something to do with maintaining back pressure to ensure seals won't blow.

    Need some input please.

    Ditto, just removed the line puking into the turbo.

    Curious as to the buy off from Cummins as a good idea on that porting as well.

    What’s the benefit to deleting the CCV vs having a catch can vs breather filter or just leaving it as is?

    Catch can is essentially the same thing as what the CCV filter is designed to do which is catch the oil droplets.

    The can will prevent oil from puking where your hose dumps.

    IMO if the filter is serviced 50k miles like it should be then leave it in place unless you change chargers.

    The benefits seem to outweigh the negative.

    I haven’t heard of a turbo failure due to the CCV filter staying in place or allowing too much oil into intake side.

    My vote is to keep it and change it at 25k intervals. The theory behind the CCV running to the air intake is so it can "pull" junk from the crankcase through the filter. Without it connected to the intake, everything just kinda hangs out in the crankcase, in theory. If you change the CCV filter way before 65k miles you "should" see minimal to no oil/residue at the turbo inlet.

    I'm in the same camp as the others.

    I changed mine at 65k and saw very little oil residue in the hose going to the intake.

    Based on the amount of oil in the CCV I felt 65k was too long and planed to change it at 40k next time.

    In 2015 Ray had this to say about it.

    "One con fellas. The negative pressure applied to the crankcase from the CCV being part of the intake helps oil seals last longer and helps the piston ring seal a tad.

    Not saying you'll have problems venting into the atmosphere.

    The trucks ran that way for years, but they were notorious for oil leaks too."

    I trust this man and what he says, but what about gutting the filter, running a catch between the crankcase and intake just to keep that pressure right?

    Easier and cheaper to dump a catch can than a new CCV filter every 30k miles or so.
