    Cool 68RFE Fluid Change

So I'm doing a fluid and filter change on my transmission and the filter kit comes with a gasket.

From factory it has RTV and after scraping it off I can possibly see why, some minor rough spots.

Question is, did anyone have a problem using a gasket?

Don't want to load it with fluid to find a leak.

    Thanks in advance.

I had mine serviced a few months ago.

Got 2 bad NAPA filters before going back with a Mopar filter.

Thankfully Napa took responsibility for them, the fluid & service time.

I should add the rough surface is on the trans side and I'm replacing the stock pan with a PPE.

That said, I'd rather go with a gasket as the next time I won't have to do as much cleanup.

Well, I'll be the guinea pig.

Don't want to leave the trans open too long.

Sorry - I wish I had a straight up truthful answer for you.

I also purchased a PPE pan - still waiting to be installed.
I bought a Lube-Locker gasket as well as the Grey Mopar RTV - Still scratching my head!

I'm like you - If I can get a high quality gasket to seal with zero leaks - that would make the next pan drop @ 60K miles a pleasureable task.

My 68RFE only has 11K miles on her - hoping to get this done within this up coming fall - when it's cooler outside - just not a fan of doing this in 100*F temps.

All I can say is Good Luck & I hope whichever you chose works the way you wanted.

EDIT: Reminds my old self - I need to treat myself to a new 3/8 drive torque wrench for this job.
I feel getting each bolt to the proper torque spec is critical in avoiding a leaking pan.

A little heads up on the PPE pan.

The fasteners are an Allen wrench type and if you use a socket, clearance may become an issue.

I had to use a nut driver extension with a nut driver allen head.

If that makes sense, it did in my head in this 100° f heat.

    Initial assessment:

When buying the PPE pan, they said it would add 3 qts which it did.

Added 10 qts of ATF+4 and after a few miles of driving she's running in the 96°f range. My thought is the fluid isn't up to the sensor yet but the dipstick is showing full so I'm halting for now.

Edit: I left the sensor in the stock position. the pan has an alternate position which I probably should have utilized and may change it later.

Pan, at this point, is showing no signs of leaks.
