2013 RAM 2500 Mirror Orientation Stuck

I'm usually pretty good at searching for answers, but this one has me a little stumped.

My passenger side mirror controls are stuck in the towing, or vertical, orientation. With the mirror flipped down, the controls are rotated as if the mirror were still flipped up.

When putting the truck in reverse, the mirror tilts out, instead of down. I've tried flipping it up and down, and making sure the housing is clean, but no joy. I had to change my presets, otherwise it would get messed up every time I started the truck.

Does anyone know if there's a sensor or magnet in the mirror to detect when it's vertical vs horizontal? Or any luck resetting the mirror?

I have a 2013 RAM 2500 Cummins, no mods that would affect the mirror AFAIK. Just steps, air bags, cabin air filter.

My truck does have the DEF deleted, so it must have some sort of programming, but it's pretty minimal.

I still have the EGR parts in the engine bay.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Joe

    Interesting question.

I never had thought about this yet.

Looking at the wiring diagram there is a sensor tow position left and a sensor tow position right built into each mirror respectively.

My guess would be you may have a bad sensor.

I have no idea if they are replaceable or available.

I have attached the wiring diagram and mirror left view.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you so much AK Bob! That at least gives me something to go on. Does it look to you like the sensor is in the mirror itself, or the mirror arm? I see what looks like a contact sensor location in the mirror arm. Not sure how much effort pulling the mirror will be, so I'll look for some instructions and see if it's in my wheelhouse :-)

Yes, looks to me like it’s located in the mirror housing behind the big mirror. I have never removed the big mirror, I have removed the small one by gently prying it out with a plastic pry bar and it just snaps back in to install. Good luck, please keep us posted.

Okay, just found this file was too big so had to optimize the file size.

    Good morning gentlemen.

AK Bob, any idea why the pdf is locked and says “you do not have permission to view this attachment”?

I love learning anything I can and wanted to read over the mirror removal instructions also.

    Thanks again AK Bob!

That tear down of the mirror is super helpful.

You don’t happen to have something like that for the arm, do you?

    Interesting topic and exchanges.

What year did the auto tilt enter into usage?

My 2010 Laramie isn't auto or am I missing a new toy, LOL. I assume that if one goes into tow/haul mode then they rotate?

Plz advise and enlighten as you will.

Thx and have a great w/e!
