I have that same kit and was one of the unlucky ones to have the threads, gaul, the first time I tried to remove it.

Yes, I even used the small amount anti size and it went on smooth as silk.

I ended up getting a new baldwin base.

Then I machined the threads off drilled and tap it for a new steel spud I got off the internet.

    No issues since.

There is a lot of great info here on alt filters thanks for the info its always great to have options.

@allbizns what filter do you have in service now?

EDIT: Doing a bit of going back in time last night - I browsed a few other cummins forums from years ago & it seems this issue is quite common since 2014.

There are a few instances - where the owner just could not get the cat filter off & had to remove the whole kit & replace the base & switch to either a Donaldson or Fleetguard.

It seems - after each owner swapped away from the Cat filter with the Aluminum top plate - No more issues.
Also - I figure as long as a magnet will attract to the top plate there will not be an issue.

As as far as I know - Cat is the only spin-on fuel filter that uses a aluminum plate.

Just remember: The Baldwin base is all aluminum - just hand tight on the filter & stop.
Other wise ya take a chance of damaging the soft aluminum threads on the base.

@SyN I see you are going to try out the KOFIL filter set. I just saw those the other night as I was loading my cart up with parts for my next service. You said your uncle is happy with them?

I alwas get concerned about straying from the well known or OE on the fuel side. I might have to give these a harder look.

I try and bring myself to run extended service intervals on both the oil and fuel. Its hard to convince my self. I'm up to about 6-7,000 oil service blackstone says the TBN looks good enough to try 10k just not sure if I can bring myself there yet LOL...

I'm still at 15k on fuel filters. Although last time I only changed the rear water separator and cat filter but checked the cartridge filter on the Engine it looked brand new. There was no sign of any thing in the canister as well. So it will be intresting to see what it looks like this time with roughly 25k on it. I am religious about only getting my gas from one high traffic station in town. And when we travel I try and use the larger pilots or flying j's with hope the fuel is cycled enough to be fairly clean. I also run Opti- Lube XPD about every 3rd tank.

Sorry for the rant I tend to obsesse over this stuff but I want to make sure I protect my investment.

Re: Donaldson And Caterpillar Info For Fuel And Oil

What is everyones thoughts on the Black Market Performance front fuel filter bracket? It comes with the 1r-0750 CAT filter.

Will I have gauling with this setup?

I have everything ready to go but after going through this reading, I’m having second thoughts.

    Thanks everyone

If the filter base threads are aluminum & you run a Cat filter - which has a aluminum top plate - there is a chance.

Even with my Donaldson non-aluminum top plate - I slowly screwed it on the Baldwin base & just got her snug & stopped.
I didn’t want to apply anymore stress then needed on those soft aluminum threads.

When using the Cat filters with a aluminum base threads - I don’t know of anything truly safe to apply to the threads to keep this galling from happening.

    Syn thanks for the info.

Yes I agree if it has aluminum threads do not install any aluminum base filter.

I believe you will be looking for trouble.

I agree with SyN on any type of anti-size. I am extreemly leary of introducing any type of metallic based anti-size in the fuel system.

I guess you could try an extreme pressure lube like CMD just not sure how the excess will react in the fuel or if the fuel will wash the lube off the threads.

Interesting: Woke up this afternoon - due to working night shift this week - thinking about the pros @ cons of these Secondary filters (spin-on) Cellulose vs Synthetic.

Cellulose has showed to trap & hold water much more efficiently then the synthetic media but synthetic media will trap & hold much smaller contaminants as well as allow better flow & supposedly be able to handle staying in service longer.

DBF5814 /17 or FF5814 / 17 will be the Ones! (Depending all on availability)
along with 4 powerful epoxy coated neodymium N52 magnets attached to both water separator & secondary filter -

I wish my brain would just shut off for short period of time.
