    Unhappy Fuel System Help

New to the group and first post here!

    I have a 2014 Tradesman 6.7 with 165K miles.

Noticed the past couple of months I would get a hard start and slight engine idle surging here and there.

It has turned for the worst recently. Hard starts, rough engine idling and surging.

Going about 60mph steady...would lose power and then regain.

Truck has shut completely off on me twice.

When power is lost and I try to accelerate exhaust tone increases and is very loud. No white smoke at all.

Fuel filters were changed 2 weeks ago.

Truck never threw a code until Saturday. P0087 low fuel pressure.

Had a guy scan it today and WiF sensor had high circuit/shortage.

Drained filter at motor and at rear today and no apparent water was found.

What steps do indeed to take to figure out what is failing?

My thoughts so far would be lift pump, fuel pressure sensor, regulator?

Welcome Jimmy! Someone will chime in that’s had this issue before.

Filters first always. Maybe not everyone is like me but a few months ago my truck gave me 2 little hiccups, and I changed my filters right away. They dont always last a full miles interval if they gotta do their job. Start there. Any other mods on your truck? I wanna say maybe a bad rail relief if it's not a plugged filter. A rail plug could fix that.

Sorry I missed the end of your post that you changed filters. Rail relief is my next guess, fuel pressure sensor also.

    No worries!

It’s tuned with straight exhaust nothing super. I’ll have to look at the rail plug.

I’ve seen online where that’s a pretty easy fix.

How would one test the sensor?

So replaced fuel pressure regulator yesterday. Symptoms went away until this morning. Started with loss of power then regain, to surge then, hard start.

Welcome in! It's most likely one of three or four things. Constant Pressure Relief Valve, fuel pump, FCA or less likely the CP3.
