    Opinions On Upgrade Path

So I have a $600 credit to DPP thanks to my failure to return my turbo core in a timely manner (not a bad thing considering now that money is guaranteed to go to my truck) and I'm wondering what to do with it.

My rig (2014 2500) is mostly stock, 105k miles.

Only modifications are cosmetic except for the BD Stock replacement turbo.

I have a Dynatrac Freespin kit with Warn hubs on the way.

I'm wanting to work on a path that improves reliability.

Right now, I'm thinking Aluminum Y pipe to get rid of the crappy plastic one I've already had fail once, a BD ProTect trans kit with BD high volume trans pan.

So that's my credit plus a little extra cheese.

My thought, I only pull a small offroad(ish) travel trailer but I pull it down the beach in some sometimes sketchy sand so the trans gets a bit of a workout there so my idea is to beef up trans stuff first.

After that, I want to do an AEV lift so that will correct all of the crap Mopar front end issues. T

    heeeeeen I'll probably delete.

This is my first diesel so wondering, does this sound like a good plan?

    Input would be appreciated.

Since you clearly are asking for opinions I'll give you an honest one.

The last thing on your list would be first on my list of reliability upgrades.

I knew I was gonna get it LOL. Fully expect that's going to be the majority of cases.

My feeling is, it's not gonna hurt me right now.

While I could be in the sand this weekend and kill my tranny?

    I dunno, that's why I posted.

    Appreciate the feedback.

I would skip the BD Protect Kit and go with an upgraded valve body... been there, done that. Pair that with MM3 tuning and your tranny will thank you.

My first upgrades were to get rid of the weak points on my 2012.
    1. DELETE (DRD IS THE KING)
    2. 625 ARP head studs
    3. Revmax valve body
    4. Thuren trac bar, thuren 3” taller coils ,BD steering box stabilizer and fox 2.0’s all the way around.
    5. Got rid of those pesky yellow headlights. (DDM tuning, ultra candus something or another, LOL) can’t remember name.
    6. Did intake (won’t mention name)and found out later it was not really necessary, as the stock is very adequate.

In stock form and power the 68RFE isnt easy to kill, so again just my opinion.

I wouldn't worry about the sand.

So deleting and running stock power in the sand would be fine in my opinion.

Or follow the advise of @TH-64 and take care of both at once.

Also you do need to go with your own gut feeling of what to do and when to do it.

You know what they say about everyone's opinions LOL.

    Re: Opinions On Upgrade Path

I agree with what has been mentioned. Billet Y is a cheap insurance policy. I bought mine and kept it in the truck Incase mine split again. I did install it before it cracked again so all is well with that.

the protect plate is an upgrade from stock relatively speaking but if you are wanting maximum reliability then go with a whole new VB. The kit will help over stock but with raised pressures still cross leak sooner than later. You can call BD and they will tell you the same thing.

Other than the obvious thing you mentioned towards the bottom.

I'd do the y-pipe and a Synergy drag link with a few fuel filters.

Reliability comes first in my opinion.
