    Question Changing Fuel Filters

    2006 5.9L here, with 289k miles.

First off do I have one fuel filter or two? I can see one below the driver door.

Second, how often should I be changing it?

Third, how much should I expect a shop to charge me for this (I live in Texas if it matters).

    Thanks!

You should only have one, engine compartment drivers side near the firewall but if you see it below your door, then that sounds like an aftermarket added.

I would recommend changing both fuel filters every 12 months or after a maximum of 12,000 miles. Be sure to install an OEM filter up front, the aftermarket filter (NAPA 1551) is a Hydraulic filter, 10 micron.

Look on the driver side of your engine and see if there is a canister there where the factory fuel filter is supposed to be.

Sometimes people will delete them and there will be a "delete block" instead of the canister.

I'd recommend changing both every 10k miles.
