Cool 68RFE Question - Shift Flare

First post- New owner of a 14' 3500. It has 58k on it.

It has shift flare in 3-4 and 4-5.

The other issue I had was with reverse.

It's only happened once on a cold start up. I park on an incline.

Could not get it into reverse. Sucker was stuck. When I finally got into reverse I made it half way out of the driveway and it fell into neutral? Gear selector still said reverse though. Put it drive then back to reverse and then it was fine.

    Any thoughts?

    As for the flare shifting.

Will a valve body and tuning fix that?

I was looking into Revmax and DRD.

    Thanks guys.

Re: 68RFE Question - Shift Flare

3-4 4-5 shift flare is normal.

The torque converter has to unlock to change gears so that's where the flare comes from.

Tuning will help a bit with it, but it's inherent to the design of the transmission.

Also, one thing I learned with these trucks is to always go to neutral and let the truck settle before putting it in park & if you are parking on a hill you need to use your foot brake.

The reason it wouldn't shift into gear is because you had the entirety of the trucks weight on the park sprag.

Probably went into neutral because a condition wasn't met in the transmission.

    Hard to say.

The TCM does a lot of things to protect the transmission.
