My ATF temp very rarely reached 110*F last winter during 0-25*F temps.

(Reading a ATF article put out by Castrol a while back) - Stating the Anti-wear additives are most effective once over 100-115*F.

So I actually want my ATF to reach those temps ASAP - If they never reach those temps - more wear could possibly be taking place (Not good if towing heavy).

Maybe another member will chime in who is in a similar climate whose done the delete & will share some advice.

I think @AK Bob installed one of these - which might be a smart choice for your climate

    • Increased flow over stock bypass valve
    • Included 160°F thermostat opens earlier than stock for improved cooling
    • Includes fully serviceable thermostat for fast warm-up in cold climates and thermostat bypass for constant cooling in hot climates

Possibly DDP could hook you up with the Mishimoto

I originally thought I'd throw one on, no-brainer as well, but I've held off living in Wisconsin - I don't know if it's really the right thing to do in colder climates.

In colder climates (0 degrees) my 68RFE trans temp was exactly the same as a new Duramax - which was ~110 degrees.

Yes, I am very happy with the Mishimoto Thermal Bypass Valve.

Works great in the cooler temperatures with the 160*F thermostat and gives me the option of going full bypass when heavy towing in warm climates.

As stated above I would also not recommend going full bypass when daily driving in cold climates.
