    Re: A Few Oil Questions

For a Very Hard Working Deleted 6.7L - It could possibly be a good choice.

My only question is: Is 3X the ppm of ZDDP needed for a daily driver?

A VOA of this oil would be interesting to witness - Though I don't think the FR3 additives will show up within a regular analysis...

I can honestly see this oil (Outlaw) being ideal for a Deleted Diesel motor that is going to be Raced or is going to be towing Med/Heavy loads basically 24/7.

Common Sense tells me - the only really way to tell is through a trend of UOAs.

68RFE/BW44-46/Power Steering: -Red Line- C+ ATF
Frontend & Rearend: -Red Line- SAE GL-5 75W-90NS

As my profile name suggests I've been a Powerstroke guy for the last several years but finally decided to make the switch and bought a 2018 leftover.

As for my questions, I was curious if you guys actually follow the whole, change your oil every 6 months recommendation.

I changed my oil January 15th at 2,900 miles.

It has now been 6 months and the truck is only at 6,900 miles.

Is it a complete waste of money and oil to change again?

I'm not afraid to spend money to maintenance the truck right, but at the same time I don't like wasting money either.

My second question is, does anyone here run Mobil1 TDT 5W-40 in their rigs? TDT was an oil I really liked to run in my Powerstrokes but I have not really been able to find anyone talk about it on forums for the 6.7.

If not, what oil do you guys recommend. Has anyone used a particular oil for awhile and had oil analysis done to show that said oil is a good choice.

Sorry for the "noob" questions, and thank you in advance for responses.

I plan on keeping this truck a long time.

I also plan on becoming a platinum member when I decide to make the truck run "right".
I would take it to 10k miles if I were you and then use your oil of choice from there on out.

I changed my factory oil at 1k miles to Amsoil 5w-40 Signature Series with Amsoil EAO-80 oil filter.

The EAO-80 oil filter will forever be my oil filter of choice unless something better comes out.

As for the Sig Series Amsoil, I wasn't as pleased with it as I had been with previous vehicles.

I'm a firm believer in finding 1 oil brand/type/weight and sticking to it but I thought I could do better, that's when I decided to try Hot Shot's Secret Blue Diamond 5w-40.

The truck runs/idles smoother on HSS than it ever thought about on Amsoil.

We're a dealer for both Amsoil and Hot Shot's Secret and I hands down recommend HSS.

It's a group 4/5 whereas Amsoil is a group 3/4. HSS can be taken 80k+ miles with proper UOAs & oil filter changes.

    Greetings @NoMorePowerstrokes

In response to your opening post: What I do on my bone stock 2016 Longhorn 3500. . .

    * Rotella T4 (the cheap stuff).
    * Change oil & filter every 10K miles.
    * Only OEM parts & filters.
    * I never plan to "keep my vehicles for a long time", but it frequently ends up that way.

Go by the oil change indicator in the display.

    Reset it at each change.

    Use Shell T6 5W40.

    Two 5w and one 15w?

What’s your train of thought on this?

No offense, just haven’t seen that before.

    Good!

With the TRIAX Supreme ESP - Both are a 100% synthetic
The 15W-40 has shown through VOAs to have a higher concentration (PPM) of Boron then Moly - The 5W-40 has a higher PPM in Moly -----> 2 very important anti-wear additives since the EPA has killed the levels of ZDDP (which is said to kill the DPF).... TRIAX - doubled the PPM of Moly & Boron to make up for the loss of the ZDDP - I like a good balanced amount of both.

Reason being: These 2 since 100% synthetic - have pour points of -40F or lower - the 15W-40 has a slight more robust additive package due to the fewer viscosity improvers.
Main Reason: I pride myself on being different then the rest and remembering they are the same chemistry - just different additive packages - One Viscosity is stronger then the other on paper - does that amount to lower wear #'s ?
A few posted UOAs has pointed in the direction of yes. (In Certain Hard Working situations)

I chose this combo strictly by hours of research and by choice with many conversations with George @ TRIAX.

EDIT: NO OFFENSE is ever taken!

I also guess I do it because Others Don't and I do it with great success.

Just curious, how come you went with the Wix XP?

Wix doesn't disclose much but from what I've found that filter is 99% efficient at 35 microns.

Underperforms greatly IMO versus the Amsoil EAO89 that's 99% efficient at 20 microns.

Just curious why not get the best filtration if you're going to the extent of mixing weights to gain maximum benefits.
