After Rain No Start Condition WIF Light Flashing

After it rains I go to crank over my truck and when I turn the key it clicks and the water in fuel light flashes.

The truck will not start or even crank over.

Then I keep trying and eventually it will start.

Truck runs perfect water in fuel light doesn’t come on once truck is started.

Does anybody have any idea what this could be.

The WIF is a bit confusing. I'd suggest checking batteries, checking battery connections, and cleaning them. Contacts in the starter, or starter relay possibly. But why the WIF, and after a rain with the click...seems odd for sure.

I don’t know if the water in fuel warning will prevent the engine from starting.

I would drain the fuel filters to get rid of any water then try starting again.

My 2015 did that a few times, found somehow water was in the WIF plug on filter, dried it out and put dielectric grease in it.

    All good.

Now I just add it during due filter change, on issues for 2 years.

Still never figured how water got there, I would understand if driving in it, but happened when it was sitting there during rain.

    Hope that helps.

With it being a 2015 I'd check both WIF sensors (1 under the bed and 1 on the driver side of engine).

I've heard of this happening when the sensors get moisture on them.

I'd recommend cleaning them with contact cleaner, wiping dry with a clean lint free rag and reinstall before you started chasing electrical problems.
