I heard when switching tunes the trans has to totally relearn itself, and you risk trans damage if you don't drive extra easy.

Is there any truth to this?

I would like to use it more if I can.
I am not familiar with how EFI works. With my MM3 I would back the power level down a day or 2 before leaving on a trip just to be safe. But that was only if going to the mountains. On flat land I would run the same 90hp tune as ran daily so no need to change anything.

I always keep my vehicle info screen up on gauge cluster, with digital readout of oil pressure, oil temp, coolant temp and trans temp. Is an actual trans temp gauge going to be more beneficial?
Is the Pyrometer gauge for EGTs?

I personally think an actual dedicated gauge will be more accurate, some will disagree.

Yes the pyrometer gauge is for EGT's and are vital when towing.

Your vehicle info screen temperature read outs will suffice, but I would add a EGT probe and monitor the exhaust temperatures also.

You want to try and keep them below 1,200*F.

Using the lowest power tune will help.

Avoid lugging the engine by selecting 5th gear avoiding overdrive when towing inclines.

    Also use Tow-Haul mode.

What does it mean to "lock out" a gear? I'm not sure how much any of this applies to me. Mine is an 06 and I'm fairly certain it's a 4 speed transmission.

Putting the trans in a specific maximum gear instead of just D.
