They probably didn't perform the correct valve adjustment procedure.
It involves rolling the engine over to TDC etc.
I bet that caused it.

With that level of dealership mechanic incompetence, anything is possible.
The stories I read on these Cummins forums are nothing short of frightening.
What an unfortunate state of affairs.

It looks like a common problem with the grid heater bracket breaking a bolt and it falling into the intake and destroying cylinder 6.

The logging company I mechanic for had a similar situation in a 2017.
The stud melted off for the grid heater and went into #6. Dealer/FCA quoted 25k back a few years ago to replace the engine.
The truck was still under power train warranty, like 60k miles, and FCA fought TOOTH AND NAIL to not pay for the engine.
RAM care/FCA eventually "claimed" that the grid heater relay was stuck on, and being as that was "electrical failure," the engine wouldn't be covered under warranty.
However, the mechanic at the dealer showed my boss the testing on the relay, and the relay was OK; even the dealer mechanic said it was, but that wasn't enough to change FCA's mind that the relay was bad
Eventually, the dealer did us a solid and covered a substantial part of the replacement because we had 4 or 5 newer RAMS at the time and are still acquiring more.
So nowadays, whenever a pick-up hits its 3 yr/36k mile electrical warranty, it gets sent to the dealer to change the grid heater relay until the powertrain warranty expires.
Why?
The relay has a 3yr/36k mile warranty on it
