this is crazy. its good that the dealership was the last ones that touched it doing the injector and timing. they also said that everything was normal. did you have any color of smoke coming out the exhaust. Sorry to hear about this I dont know what mileage you have but i hope this falls under the powertrain warranty for you as well as the work they did on it.

No smoke that I saw but wasn’t looking for any either. Truck has 123k miles so I’m out of warranty so we’ll see what the dealer says. I’m stressing this out. I’ve literally got five more payments on this thing and it’s paid for. I really don’t want to get another truck. I love this truck it’s been great and I planned on never getting rid of it. I’m guessing the motor is gone but who knows. I’m no mechanic.

Keep the truck, pay it off even if you did have to do a rebuild.

Do not have the dealership do a rebuild unless it was their fault with what they did.

My last engine that I toasted was on my 02.

I took out a piston and lifted the head so I did a in frame rebuild.

I put stronger valve train parts, Can, Fire-Ring the head new pistons and the crank was still good plus a new turbo and manifold, bigger built injection pump.

This cost me 9k and I know that sounds like alot.

Dealership wanted about 13k for a stock rebuilt motor.

I took it to a well know cummins diesel performance shop.

Whatever cost it will take to fix will be far cheaper than paying out 5-600 a month for a new payment.

post up what they said is wrong with it.

    Let us know on here.

Remember they told you nothing was wrong with it except a injector and timing.

I'm sure you didn't get a chance to pop open and see what the oil looked like if it was milky color (head gasket failure) or oil in the coolant.

The sound to me still sounded top half valve, push rod, but I'm challenged with sound at times because all the years in the Marines.

Also where do you live at?

Maybe I know a good diesel shop close.

    Valve drop?

    Kissin' a piston perhaps?

I'm deff not as experienced with Cummins or diesel for that matter, just sounds similar to my 2000 merc grand marquis when it did exactly that.

IDK, hope not, but a pissin match would be in order as to what they told you initially my friend.

    As stated Sir.

    Plz update as you can.

    Great luck

    I definitely want to rebuild.

I’m in North Georgia so I’m going to research some shops around.

I want to hold the dealer for some liability.

We’ll see what they want to say.

Stand your ground they will not admit fault.

Turn your recorder on your phone when you go talk to them.

After four days the dealer said I have no compression in cylinder 3 and they are pulling the head to investigate but won’t be done pulling the head until Monday end of business.

I’m so frustrated it’s been four days and they know nothing at this point.
