    P00AF - Now What?

History on the truck: 2011 RAM 3500 SRW. 281000 miles.

I had the emissions deleted at 225000.

    Best truck I’ve owned.

Yesterday: batteries needed replaced, had to jump it twice.

Once they were replaced I noticed the engine brake wasn’t working.

This morning it threw a CEL: P00AF.

I drove it down the street and engine brake was working again but after looking at this code I am afraid to drive it anywhere.

One more note is that there seems to be soot coming into engine compartment which wasn’t there three weeks ago.

Also a last thing, when I cycle the key to on I can hear the actuator cycling the turbo so I’m really confused as to what it might be.

Any insight would greatly be appreciated.

My first post but I come here a lot to see what other Cummins people have going on.

    Thanks in advance.

    Shane.

    @S-Ellison

As for the engine brake code, did you clear it? And did it come back?

In the past I had a code throw when changing batteries, but when I start fully charging the new batteries before their 1st install, never an issue.

The only code was the P00AF.

It’s a code for code that say turbocharger control module performance.

I never got a code for engine brake.

Now just wondering what to do next.

    Welcome Shane!

Did you try clearing the code and where exactly is the soot coming from in the engine bay?

From the best I can tell, around the turbo itself.

No I didn’t try to clear the code yet.

I drove it home last night with no code at all.

Code didn’t pop up until this morning after it sat all night.

Check for exhaust leaks where the turbo is bolted to the exhaust manifold and at the “V” band clamp that attaches the turbo to the exhaust down pipe.

Clear the code and see if it returns.
