Low Output Of Cold Air When Not Moving

Has anyone found a fix to keeping the AC cold when idling?

When my 2018 sits for even a minute the AC seems to disappear.

I've tried bumping the idle up manually with negative results.

As soon as the truck starts moving, it goes right back to frosty.

(Possibly) might not have gotten a full charge coming off of the line.

Take it to your stealership & Have it checked or if you possess the proper A/C tools - check youself.

I've had a couple of autos do the same thing over the years - in stop & go traffic we would sweat our &%$#@ off - but after getting going again @ highway speeds it would freeze us out... Getting that airflow across the condenser fins was the ticket!

One was actually low on R34.

    Check the fan clutch?

If that goes out it can affect AC at a stop.

Mine is doing the same thing.

A friend of mine who owns his own HVAC business checked it and said it looks like I have a blocked orifice or noncondensables in the filter.

We didn't have time to evacuate the system and pull everything apart when he looked at it.

I was a little low on Freon and he topped it up but it only helped a little bit. I'm intrigued to hear what your issue is.

I had the same issue and it ended up being the fan clutch.

Recommend going with OEM parts on this.

@Geno's Garage sells a wrench that’s very helpful as well.

Re: Low Output Of Cold Air When Not Moving

UPDATE, service done, it's the viscous fan clutch, they found a very small leak, it's going to be replaced under warranty.

I asked if I bumped the idle all the way up, 1500 rpms, which I hadn't gone that high, would it work.

They said maybe, haven't tried it yet.
