Rattling From Front of Engine While In Reverse

So I just got back from deployment this week and have been driving my truck around (it sat for nearly 7 months).

The wife let the batteries die so she couldn't drive it for me anyways.

I noticed today when I put it in reverse it has a rattling sound coming from the engine bay.

Opened the hood and it seems to be coming from the front of the motor its louder on the left hand side than the right.

When its in park or neutral cant't hear it at all and its very faint when its in drive.

I also noticed that when the A/C is off its the loudest and it nearly goes away when its on.

I did a quick Google search and the only thing I saw said fan clutch.

Has anyone had the same issue or know where to start looking?

I'm going to try and upload a video of it.

Thanks, Just out of curiosity how would a belt cause a rattling sound, I've always gotten a squeak from belts.

Check your idler pulley. Bearings might be going out. Hard to tell in the video.

Serpentine belts tend to act differently from the old “V” belts.

I got mine wet the other day when washing the bugs from my radiator.

It sounded like the engine was going to rattle apart when I first started it, but then back to normal.

Good advice check the belt and idler pulley first.

So, I wound up replacing the fan clutch and while I had the fan off I replaced the the belt too.

It appears the problem is fixed, the only thing is that I can really hear the fan inside the truck now.

When I'm accelerating I can hear a very loud Whooo sound, I never noticed it before.

    Is that normal?

Disclaimer: it is really hot today In the 90's with high humidity.

Glad you found the issue. If it is that hot out then I would say that it’s working correctly.
