    2016 Engine Cooling Issue

So truck has 75,000 miles been running great.... was in a line for Fast Food friday... was mildly hot out (87 degrees)... when then warning light came of for over heating.... pulled over and opened the coolant tank and Air came out...

When driving the truck stays at 190-194 but when i parked and let the truck idle it would heat up to 215-228... wouldn't let it get above that... so i turned off the truck... not sure if it is the Thermostat since it cools fine when driving... the Fan Clutch seems to work.. any thoughts... ??

    Was the coolant level low?

Just a thought - either with compressed air or H2O - remove your front grill & blow or spray out your radiator/intercooler the best ya can.

Possibly might be some what plugged up between the fins with bugs & debris & not getting enough air flow across them / when not at highway speed!

I placed a double thick plastic fine mesh bug screen in front of the front intercooler - so it covers all of them to help protect against this...

I agree with watersupply: Check coolant level first thing (while cold) & remove cap to relieve any pressure...

Last thing - might be a failing clutch fan...

    The Coolant level is good.

When the air purged out it came right up to level.

No sweat hence why I am stuck on what is up and might be an air pocket that got near the sensor or something.

Check the coolant level when the engine is cold. The reservoir should be about half full.

This means you have healthy head gaskets.

Do you know if your fan is kicking on? Depending on your answer, you could check your electrical connection for the fan. Could also be some sort of faulty coolant temp sensor.

I am guessing to see if the fan is kicking on... wait till it is at operation temp and see if it spins? cause it spins all the time... not sure if the clutch for the fan is bad.... ?

Once at operating temp Run your truck on high idle and stand at the front. You should be able to hear it kick on then off

Just wanted to add, the fact that your fan rotates all the time is normal and a good indication that the clutch is okay.
