I think you have to take it out and drain, flush it out.

I’ve never done it but I know there are some on here that has drained theirs.

    Hopefully somebody will chime in.

What @watersupply189 said. Drop the crossmember and remove the tank, then flush it, preferably with distilled water, let it dry and reinstall or don't.

    Re: Drain DEF tank

I’ve read some of your other posts so I think I know what you are trying to accomplish.

To drop the DEF tank, there are two electrical connectors to unhook a skinny one on the side of the tank and one on top.

There are actually two connectors on top but you only have to unclip the one closest to the front of the truck.

Take the doser line of the injector.

Remove the filler tube and vent tube from the tank.

There are two green tabs for each hose.

Press them in and the hose will slide off the tank.

    Repeat for the vent tube.

There are 6 bolts holding the cross member, 4 on the driver's side, 2 on the passenger side.

I used a floor jack with a piece of wood to hold upon it while I removed the bolts. (I did all this by myself).

Once the bolts are out you can lower the crossmember and tank to the floor. Slide it out from under the truck. There is a tank strap holding the tank on the crossmember. Remove the one nut holding it on. There is also what looks like a ground cable running from the pump to the crossmember. Remove that bolt. Your doser line that’s wrapped in “tin foil” is just plastic clipped in the channel.

Remove the clips. The tank is now free from the cross member.

I then reinstalled the cross member empty. I know it probably seems like a big deal but honestly it wasn’t that bad. (I had to YouTube the hose connections.

Thought they would have to be pulled out, fought with that for a while). LOL.

In this pic, you’ll see the crossmember on the floor with the tank removed.

    Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention the skid plate! (Not sure if all trucks are equipped with the transfer case skid plate?).

Mine had it... 4 bolts easy peasy.

Two of the bolts screw into the cross member.
