    Camper Manufacturers

    Hello everyone,

I am wondering what manufacturers to avoid in the fifth wheel campers.

I am looking to get rid of my slide in and get a fifth wheel and so far there are a lot of mixed reviews on some of them.

We have narrowed it down to a few brands.

Right now it's between Highland Ridge, Keystone, and KZ (Durango1500).

Also what amenities should we look for or just pass on?

I know this is kind of a loaded question as everybody has opinions, but you don't know what you don't know.

Any input will be greatly appreciated!

I looked at 5th wheel toy haulers for a hot minute so I'm no professional.

To me, Keystone seemed to have the best quality for under $80k selling price (not MSRP) and Heartland seemed to be one of the cheaper made.

Again, this is just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt.

@DDP knows quite a bit about 5th wheels so I'd value his opinion a lot more than mine. @DieselDingus I'll also send you a quick PM too.

Great Topic & the wife & I are willing to listen to all advice given!

I do know my wife's best friend & her husband have a Fusion brand (Toy Hauler) & it is really nice (Uptown)! Wife loves the floor plan.

To tow it loaded safely - I would need a 1 ton.

All that I actually know now @ this time - is I'm going to be using the Reese Goose Box & B&W Ball & safety chain kit designed for my Rams puck system...
The Anderson Aluminum Hitch still has me curious!

Our Winnebago travel trailer has been good to us.

I know they have several floor plans for 5th wheels.

Thanks Joe for the mention. Yes sir we looked at a ton of them before purchasing one. We full timed in our 5th wheel for over 2 years.

Keystone is one of the leading brands you can buy depending on which model you get.

    We got the Montana.

Each and every brand will have their problems so be ready for that.

If you think the warranty is easy I can promise you it's not LOL.

It wasn't for me anyway as well as a lot of others.

Most of the time you are stuck without a home while they fix it as well and it's actually easier to just fix most things yourself.

Feel free to shoot me a call or pm and I'll happily talk to you about my experiences and what I would recommend.

    Following!

    In the same boat.

We are ready for the purchase; however I keep seeing nothing but horror stories.

I’m tempted to get a Airstream based on quality alone.

I’d rather not make a ~$50k investment on something known for being shoddy.

    Re: Camper Manufacturers

I suppose it depends on how you’re going to use it. For weekend/vacation use I think any of the three you mentioned would be acceptable. If you’re thinking full-time use I would prefer the Keystone Montana line, Heartland Big Country, or, ideally, Northwood Arctic Fox.

We have a 2011 Nu-Wa Hitchhiker that we have full-timed in for the past six years. Unfortunately, they are no longer manufactured, along with Peterson Industries Excel andWinslow line.

As far as amenities, that’s a personal choice. For us, being full-timers, storage was a huge factor. And given the current situation in the country, is even a bigger factor. We can grocery shop for two weeks worth of food and have plenty of room for storage. And, unless you plan to boondock a lot, a residential fridge is MUCH better than the typical two or three-way RV fridge.

Don’t discount a quality used rig, whose manufacturing was squeezed out by those looking for a cheap rig by the mass producing companies in Indiana.

Look at www.kansasrvcenter.com as an example.

    Re: Camper Manufacturers

Thank you all for the replies so far!

We have narrowed it down even further to the Keystone Avalanche 332MK, and the Highland Ridge 314RLS.

They both have awesome floor plans with pros and cons so its tough.

    Keep the recommendations coming please!

Th KZ Durango we were looking at was a used 2019 model, after a more thorough walk around today I noticed It had been backed into something and had some damage to the frame and fiberglass, so that one is out unfortunately.

The Montana looks amazing but the dry hitch weight is listed around 2200lbs for the smallest model, so loaded I can only assume it will be more?

I have a 2500 so trying to stay on the lighter side.

Also do any of you have experience with the Andersen ultimate fifth wheel hitch?
