    Transmission deep pan

Hello all! I had a question about the deep trans pans. I know that if you change the oil pan set up on a motor, you have to get a matching sump for that pan. now in my mind, I would think that a transmission would be no different. I know that the sump in the trans is usually the filter itself but wouldn't having a deeper pan require a extension tube or something to put the sump in the bottom of the pan? while we are talking about trans pans, what are your guys votes for what one is best? I like the BD products both the trans pans as well as the diff covers. what is everyone's thoughts? I have a 68RFE for reference.

I feel a Pan is a Pan --> They all seem to have been tested and proven... (Aluminum Aftermarket) - Waiting on Gale Banks to arrive with his $800 68RFE pan @ any time...

A deeper pan might help a bit more with cooling and more ATF might aid a bit in the lubrication dept & longevity of the fluid - But What can a Pan be Best at?

Also a pan with many large baffles might be a benefit as well... Keep most the ATF where it needs to be at critical times...
I only wish the aluminum aftermarket pans come with a very large Neodymium magnet (Some How or Some Way) affixed in the lowest part of the pan - this would at least trap and hold ALOT of wear metals & keep them from flowing through out the trans... I don't mean some little dime size magnet attached to the drain plug...

Some pans have had clearance issues with the lines--- My PPE will not...

I say pick a pan that makes ya feel warm & fuzzy inside the go with it! I've never heard of a Transmission failure - due to a pan not doing its job due to a bad design...

I agree with the magnet thing. it would be nice to have one with a hockey puck sized magnet on it. I also am waiting to see when banks will come out with the "double deep Chicago style trans pan" that keeps that oil at room temp and increases flow by 58% for $550. $725 if you want it in red. I am with you that I have never heard of a tranny failure due to a trans pan it just seemed odd that there was no mention any where of a sump modification to put it down into the now deeper pan. I supposed that the ones with the baffles in it like you said will help keep the oil in one place but also increase surface area for heat transfer to cool the oil with the added benefit of a larger fluid volume to allow the fluid to rest for longer before getting pumped back through the trans. I think I saw in another post that the PPE pan has some nice baffles in it.

is there any cooler line clearance issues?

I have heard a lot of them do.

I have been looking at the ppe pan beause of this issue.

It looks like a robust well built pan and most report no clearance issues.

It seems like a hit or miss honestly per truck. The PPE is also a nice one.

it is the same story on the airplanes I work on. removing and reinstalling some of the hydraulic components are easy then the next time you do it on another jet, it is a huge pain due to the slight difference in the bends in the lines.
