Dad had a special belt for the occasion.. kept it hangin in the closet.

I had a good, reasonable, Dad... and a Psychotic Mom.
Growing up in that environment kept my Dad, me, my two sisters, and our dog close since we all had to work together to stay one step ahead of "the ol' lady" as she was affectionately referred to (when she was out of ear-shot).
Compared to what I was used to at home, basic training in the military felt like summer camp.
I honestly didnt understand why some of the guys in my unit had trouble dealing with what the drill instructors threw at us.
Closing thought...
I raised two kids. No major problems.
Discipline as required.
Never saw the need for physical beatings or psychological torment tactics.

Raised 3 girls, one is now a LPN and will have her RN this year, one in the AF, the other in the Navy.
Some issues, but they've all come back and we've discussed it all out.
They shake their heads now at their friends who didn't have 'a**hole parents'. LOL.
