    Exhaust Brake Question

Sometimes at a traffic light, I like to make the truck whistle by engaging the exhaust brake switch.

    Why not?

Sometimes it works... sometimes it does not. (at idle)... It always works when decelerating.

    Thoughts?

    Re: Exhaust Brake Question

Could be related to the outside temp.

    Re: Exhaust Brake Question

I'm going off memory so the exhaust brake will engage under 2 diff conditions by itself.

1st is if the ambient air temp is below the factory programmed set point, and when truck is first started. (cant remember if the Oper/Manual states exact) mine comes on anything colder then 39 degrees but I'm going off my display temp.

I believe the exhaust brake is taking the temp from the block.

2nd condition is if the engine is at idle and has cooled down or has not reached coolant operating temp the exhaust brake will engage.

170-180 it will not engage to help warm up. on my truck if i use high idle function this will usually cut off and back to normal exhaust break/normal idle a about 159-160 coolant temp.

Also something about if vehicle drives more than 5mph the exhaust brake used for warming purpose shuts off.

    Exactly like DIESELWRKS described.
