    New Here

    Hi folks!

New here and new to the Cummins world. I am an arborist in SW Virginia and will be purchasing a 2010 3500 dually 4WD stick shift very soon.

I’ve never owned a diesel and this is a big step for our new tree business.

Lots of newbie questions so apologies in advance for that.

Any first time tips you want to share?

Things you wish you knew then that you know now?

    Mistakes to avoid?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum!

If I could tell you 3 quick things to check, I’d say:
    1. Check for sloppy steering
    2. Check for blow by (YouTube how)
    3. If you can start the truck after it’s sat overnight it help you know if any of the injectors are leaking(white/grey’ish smoke that smells like raw fuel)

I'd try to find out from the dealer what parts they took off the old motor(turbo,CP3 etc.).

If it's an actual brand new complete motor then they have their asking price or more in just the motor/labor.

Thanks! I’ll ask them. The impression the salesman left me was that the previous owner had the engine put in. I’ll ask those questions before I fly out to get it. Don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth but I also know that if it’s too good to be true. . .
