    Particulate Sensor

    Howdy.

    I got a 2018 Ram 2500 with
46k on it and check engine light is on.

Dealer says new particulate sensor required & stationary Regen must be done costing $1000.00.

Dealer is saying they must go into the computer & program the Regen at the dealership, calling it a "stationary re-gen" for the process to be fixed.

Has any one dealt with this as I was hoping it would be a "quick" change out of the sensor and a do it yourself project.

    Sensor runs about $100 - 150.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Thomas

They want to charge you 1,000.00 to change something in the computer and then let it sit there for say a couple hours?

    What in the world?

Being an 18 with 46k you are still covered under the federal emissions warranty till 50k (80k if in CA and a few other states) Sounds like the dealer is trying to pull a fast one on you.

Look at calling RAM care also.

Well, let's see. If the sensor is 200 bucks, would it be worth buying the sensor and installing it yourself then go for a 30 mile journey on your local interstate to see if it clears up?

I have read many times that this is caused by driving short trips and not running the truck hard enough to burn that stuff away. These trucks are designed to work and work hard.

Never the less - giving the stealership a grand to make a repair on a 2 year old truck is the absolute last thing I would do. If you don't mind me asking- how many miles are on it? How many hours are on it? How many idle hours are on it?

Federal emissions warranty is 5yr/50k miles for all states except CA and longer in CA.

Sounds like the dealer is trying get one over on you my friend.

Do you have the quote in writing with your VIN number and mileage on it?

If so I'd call Ram Corporate care and complain.

    Their number is 1-888-528-4364.

There are several states that fall under the CA emissions warranty.

I can't think of all of them off hand, but I will go to the truck in the AM and post it up for everyone.

    What is a stationary Regen?

A Regen while the truck isn’t moving?

They want to run your engine while your truck isn’t moving?

Trying to get truck up to temp to perform a Regen not moving with no air flow sounds like a bad bad idea to me.

    It is a desoot.

It is run with the engine in park and the system runs the engine up while adding fuel to heat the DPF of to temp to clean it out.

Not dangerous unless you part over dead leaves or point the exhaust at people or plastic siding.

I have done it before and all was well.
