    Hey everyone!

New guy here, making the new guy post, on a community forum that I can't relate to yet.

I actually joined this forum to find all the information I could before I decide to buy my first RAM.

I'm currently AD USAF living in Japan, and plan to buy myself a RAM truck once I get back to the states.

It's been pretty time consuming trying to find what I want, and the price point that works for me.

I plan to get a truck and then get a camper so the family can travel around together.

I've been pretty hard pressed to get a 2500, but looking at the payload capacity between the 2500 and the 3500 I feel like it's more worth my time and money to just get the 3500 SRW.

I don't necessarily need a DRW truck, but the step up in payload between the 2500 and 3500 is tremendous and to make sure we are covered. I think the 3500 may be the way to go.

Another issue that I've been reading about is all these emissions equipment on these trucks now.

I'm no expert, but it doesn't seem in the buyers benefit to have unfiltered exhaust recirculated through a closed/pre-filtered system.

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum!

The buyers benefit no but to meet the epa requirements yes. Having the emissions equipment isn't the greatest thing no but as long as you perform the proper maintenance and drive the truck how it is intended to be driven you should have many trouble free miles. It's definitely not a perfect system but it does work when it is working properly. It sounds like you shouldn't have too much of an issue if you are going to be towing with it. If you don't tow often then just don't let it idle for long periods, get it up on the highway every so often and maintain a speed of at least above 55 i would say for a bit to let the exhaust heat up and burn some of that soot out. Also, it doesn't hurt to mash on the pedal every so often while rolling down the road to help keep that VGT freed up. Perform the egr/intake maintenance when you are supposed to and i think you will be pretty happy with it.

Now don't get me wrong there are some issues that are just going to happen but in order for them to keep making trucks they have to abide by the rules. Just like taxes. If you want to keep living in your house then you pay the taxes whether they go up or down that year. No one likes it but they do it.

It sounds like the 3500 might be the way to go for you for sure. Better to have too much truck then not enough for sure LOL. Been there done that too many dang times... Also, thank you for your service and come back safely my friend!
