Thread: Engine “Skipping”

    Engine “Skipping”

My engine recently started “skipping” during acceleration.

I replaced my fuel filters and it’s still doing it but not all of the time.

It runs great at full throttle.

    No codes either.

Truck is a 14 with DPF/EGR delete, full exhaust, intake, RaceMe Ultra with Double R Tuning.

    Thanks.

Can you detail it a little more.

Like how much throttle are you giving it when it does it and so forth.

Is it every time or random?

    It's usually around 1/4 - 1/2 throttle.

Does not do it at full throttle.

I'd say it happens about half of the time.

With your MM3 look at the pressure menu and select rail pressure actual and rail pressure desired.

See if there is a variance when the symptoms occur.

Also watch the VGT vane openings for actual and commanded.

You may have a VGT with sticking vanes that happens in the 10% range.

It can cause the feeling or even a surge.

The vanes go to 30% min when at higher throttle and won't show the issue.

    Re: Engine “Skipping”

Just a little update. Talked with a friend of mine that had a similar issue a few years back. His truck did this twice and both times the turbo was bad. I unplugged the harness for the actuator and now it does not do it. Does anyone have info on the high tech turbo drop in S 300 replacement? Also, how long can I run this with the actuator unplugged?

If you plan on keeping the truck a while then I would recommend going with a Borg drop, Fleece, or BD drop in turbo/kit.

Hopefully someone will chime in on the actuator.

I am not sure on that one.

All of those kits you can utilize the factory manifold and down pipe?

I’m not down for swapping all that other stuff out.

Yes, they all make a “drop in” direct replacement that come with a new actuator.

Ok, I’d like to go with a non VG turbo.
