Thread: Trans Tuning?

    Trans Tuning?

In regards to the MM3 DRD tune vs the RaceME Ultra for the 12-18 trucks what’s the difference between the trans tunes?

Is the trans tuning DRD provides better than then RaceME Ultra?

I’m leaning towards the MM3 DRD setup but curious which one is better for the trans and why.

Either tune will always been ran on the stock power setting or the 30hp (lowest option available).

truck is a DD with occasional towing of a 13-15k toy hauler 7-10 times a year with a mix of flat towing and pulling grades.

The trans tuning on the RaceME Ultra is absolutely horrible.

Its box tuning which one tune fits all.

I never ran ultra so can’t speak for how it shifts.

I run DRD and trans tuning is nice. It does still have shift flare by design. That’s the only “negative” thing I have heard.

I use it in quotes because if there’s no flare you will break things in the stock transmission.

Most guys run 120hp tune for motor/trans without issue.

In a nut shell the shift strategy is far more dynamic from DRD than Ultra.

There are several parameters for each given moment during the trans working.

The throttle percentage, load, trans fluid temperature, gear, converter status, valvebody line pressure, etc, etc, etc all have an influence on how well the transmission shifts, when it shifts, and the effect of the shift.

With Ultra being a box tune the parameters are basic/generic for function.

With custom tuning there are more in-depth changes throughout the rpm band and load percentages for a better feeling and longer lasting truck.

    Re: Trans Tuning?

My biggest concern and not sure if it is a big deal is the desired line pressure settings.

I see some tuners list 170 and others list 185.

Is 185 going to cause damage and vice versa?

If you talk to the tune companies that list 185 their response is we are not doing anything different than some of the trans companies that have plug in line pressure connectors that trick the ecm/tcm into thinking it has the 160 psi but in reality it sets the desired to 185.
