1by1 head studs, should I check torque

    Hi y’all
Need some advice from those who done 1 by 1 head studs instead of taking the head off. I know it’s common Practice. Can’t find any info on if I should go back and check torque. Do I just try every bolt again or back it off a bit and push to 130 again. Am I fine just leaving it as is. Bolts where swapped inside outward patter like a typical torque down. 1st to 125, next day to 130 without running the motor. If you done it, please share how and the outcomes. Thanks

What kind of studs are they? In theory, a quality fastener will stretch when torqued to the manufacturers recommendation and maintain a certain amount of elasticity if not over torqued. I installed my head studs the same way you did and did not re-torque them because ARP did not specify it with the fastener type. I did check them about 20K miles later when I was doing other maintenance and it was the same.

I have built a number of engines (stock and performance) and never re-torqued a fastener. I never had a engine failure due to a fastener.

Someone else may offer a different experience, but based on my 30+ years of building and repairing vehicles I find it unnecessary.

    Muzzy, thanks for the reply.

    They are ARP 425’s.

I might go in there and make sure they all click.

It is a little bit of work if not doing anything else that’s why I figured I’d ask.

I'd check them again if it were mine.

I always check torque after a couple heat cycles or 2-300 miles.
